Garbage, empties and just an overall mess is becoming a growing problem at all the KSC Club cabins. We are so lucky to have such excellent facilities to warm up or seek out shelter and safety in harsh conditions or emergencies, so "please" be considerate and clean up after your visit. An empty beer can weighs a lot less than a full one and takes up so little room if you crush it down. There's absolutely no reason why you can't "pack out what you pack in".
Facilities
Graystokes
You'll find the Main Chalet, (Picture Top Right) at the intersection of the Main trail and Steves trail. Approximately 14 kms from the parking lot via the Main Trail. It has a large wood stove for warming up and drying your gear. There is firewood stored under the floor. Access is through a trap door inside the cabin. Please be careful when getting firewood or chopping. It also has a propane stove for all your cooking needs. There are two new out-houses located to the rear of the chalet. There are four "bunks"(no matress) in the loft if you wish to stay overnight, if you do I would suggest an inflatable mattress.
Leaving the Chalet, head north through the field and hang a right across the creek. Stick to this trail and after a short ride and some stopping to play in the powder, you will come upon the Hiltin on Linden Lake .(Hiltin spelled that way because the original shelter was made of tin) .Picture Second from top Right
This cabin has a wood stove for heating as well as a second level sleeping loft. A covered porch makes for a great place to soak in the rays and scenery or serve food on the chili run or other events. The firewood is stored under the cabin, access through an inside trap door ,so please be careful when retrieving and splitting.
A few kilometers past Moore Mountain and a short jaunt off of the 201 you'll find the smallest and most rustic of the facilities, "Uncle Tom's Cabin".(Picture Second from Bottom Right) Update: This past season marked the erecting of a new and improved Uncle Tom's Cabin. Due to a large anow load last season the old shack collapsed under the massive weight. A great effort from Volunteers resulted in a beautiful little cabin that'll hopefully be around for years to come.
Finally, on route to Big White via the 201, set off in a picturesque wooded spot is "The Whitehouse".(Bottom Right) Named after past KSC President, Pat Whiteway who for so many years dedicated so much of his time to the establishment, maintenance and betterment of the KSC prior to his passing. The Whitehouse has a wood stove for warming up and drying out and toasting your lunch time sandwich. A beautiful little monument to commemorate the late, great "Whitey".
Each one of the cabins are maintained on a voluntary basis by members of the Kelowna Snowmobile Club. All outdoor adventurers are welcome to the use of the provided facilities but we ask that you please do your part by taking your garbage and empties with you when you leave. "Pack out what you pack in". Should any one of the cabins be running low on firewood please do not vandalize the facility for firewood. Contact a member of the club and the cabin will be re-stocked with wood. Finally, we ask that upon leaving any one of the Club facilities please be sure to close the door securely prior to your departure. This helps to keep the out the nasty winter elements and the destructive little critters. Lets all be responsible and considerate and do our part in keeping our safe havens in pristine condition for everyone to enjoy.
